Painted by Winston Churchill cica 1930 at Blenheim Palace on one of many visits to his birth place & home of his grandfather the 7th Duke of Marlborough. The tapestries were created to commemorate the great victory at Blenheim of Churchill's ancestor, John Churchill in 1704. He gave this painting to his daughter Mary Soames. Churchill: The Painter
Churchill's talent was multi-facetted, he was a soldier, politician, wartime leader, writer and historian. In 1915, at the age of 41 Churchill discovered a natural talent as an artist and for the rest of his life he painted enthusiastically. His art embraced many subjects and locations in Britain and around the world. Churchill painted over 500 canvases predominantly of landscapes, but also still lifes and self portraits.
